Thanks for the insight! I was just wondering about the very question whether commercial S60 apps can be done with Python. Now I have motivation to look further into it. Yes: I hate Symbian C++ programming.

Very interesting article and quite inspiring. I think that pys60 will be the way i will learn python. I have years experience of the Symbian/C++, so if there is not a python API to do what i want, i will build my own extension :)
Kiittos paljon!

Hello Mikko ,

Yes it's a great article !
@janekw_on : there's a dbms support in PyS60 for native Symbian databases (see dbms module)
And now Nokia has ported MySQL server to Symbian OpenC so it's now possible creating a client for PyS60 ...

I think that PyS60 has a bright future (it's very young yet) but the community is very active. Could you share code from your modules among these 100 module ? I mean the module which are extending S60 functionalities :)

Great article, very inspiring...

You've managed to mention all pros and cons of using PyS60 - and the other platforms too. I'd add perhaps lack of proper database (sql) support, which is a rather important part of commercial applications...
Also, there may be more such projects around. Unfortunately mine (around 3k lines of client .py code) won't see daylight due to bad luck (read company policy).

I hope PyS60 community stays as vivid as it is now.

I agree with you fully that python is no longer a prototyping language. There are many good applications in PyS60 which can be commercial. But the main thing that hinders its process is the mandatory requirement of Python (on the device) to run the Pys60 applications.
So I am supporting it to be preinstalled option for the Nokia devices. This will really make opensouce python and its applications grow better. And believe me this won't take much time after all.

Best Regards
